Help for Loading iNovaFX Photoshop Action Filters:

The loading of Actions into Photoshop is not as straightforward as loading images. One must load all Actions including the iNovaFX Filters through a special menu that drops down from a control on the Actions palette.

In the upper right corner of the Actions palette, a triangle points to the right. Click on it and a menu opens that allows you to do several things for the actions.

Pages 205 and 218 of the Nikon eBook reference some of these options.

Page 218 gives more detail about how to run filters smoothly and how to use Button Mode.

Photoshop™ 6.0 incompatibilities.

Just when everything seemed complete, Adobe brought out Photoshop 6.0 about a month before the eBook filters became final. We tested many of them and all seemed to work.

New "features" in the Photoshop 6.0 method of treating layers have come to light.

Filters in the iSO Recover.atn group and some of the iComplexArtFX.atn group are affected by these changes.

These Action Filters work fine with Photoshop 5.0 and 5.5, but do not work as expected in Photoshop 6.0.

PS 6.0 Work-Arounds are here.

Filters in the iSO Recover.atn group will need to be modified using the technique on the PS 6.0 page.

A preliminary solution can be downloaded here. It replaces the function of the most useful filter, the iSO2Taste<---.

In the FilterFix file you will see three iSO Filter Files. The bottom two are self-installing. Click on them and they should expand (using Stuffit) on your desktop to recognizable iNovaFX Filter files. The top one is the file from which the other two were made. This file, iSO Recover PS6.atn can be simply downloaded to your desktop and although it may have an unfamiliar icon, it will behave just like any other Action Filter file and can be loaded from the Actions Palette.

The unstuffed versions place a correctly-iconed version on your desktop or in your download file. They can load themselves into Photoshop automatically. See the factoids in the right column.

Once you find this list, loading Actions is a snap.

Action Factoids:

  • Once the Actions are inside your copy of Photoshop, they are saved when you Quit. You don't have to reload them each time you open Photoshop.
  • Modifications you make to filters are saved when you Quit Photoshop.
  • To get back to the original iNovaFX Filter file after modifying a Filter, you must trash the old one, or rename it, and re-Load the original file.
  • You cannot load a single Action without loading the entire folder of actions. Sorry. That's just the way they made it work.
  • Want a cool way to load an iNovaFX Action Filter set into your Photoshop? Sure you do.
    1.Quit out of Photoshop.
2.Locate the iNovaFX Filter group you want.
    3.Double click on it*.
It will open Photoshop for you and be in the Actions Palette, ready to go.
